Department of Canadian Studies
Overview
As a developed industrialized nation and a member of the G7, Canada is a significant international actor, distinguished by its vast geography, abundant natural resources, knowledge-based economy, leading academic and research systems, and multicultural society. This country offers valuable and insightful experiences in various fields, including governance, innovation, public policy, sustainable development, higher education, immigration, public health, environmental issues, and technology. Furthermore, the extensive presence of the Iranian diaspora and students in Canadian universities and research centers provides a significant capacity for scientific engagement—a capacity that has maintained its importance even during periods of limited formal diplomatic relations through persistent academic and research collaboration.
Within this framework, the Department of Canadian Studies operates under the Institute for North American and European Studies at the University of Tehran, aiming to advance scientific understanding, produce specialized knowledge, and provide a platform for interdisciplinary research. By leveraging the expertise of domestic and international professors, researchers, students, and specialists, the Department seeks to become a reference point for Canadian studies in Iran and to facilitate the formation of joint research networks between academic and scientific institutions in both countries.
